It appears that one cannot turn on talk radio these days without hearing Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity bash Mike Huckabee for not being a "true conservative". They are trying to push Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson onto their audience as the only conservative candidates of this primary.
I truly object to this nonsense. Mitt Romney has flipped-flopped on issues from abortion to the 2nd Amendment. Selwyn Duke, had a great article in the 'American Thinker'. Where he points out that Mitt Romney as recently as his 2002 run for governor said "The
choice to have an abortion is a deeply personal one. Women should be
free to choose based on their own beliefs, not the government's." Since when is a pro-choice stance that of a "true conservative" Mr Limbaugh?
Selwyn Duke goes on to say how Romney advocated governmental recognition of homosexual adoption rights, domestic partnerships and homosexual civil unions. And in 2005 "Romney's campaign
distributed pro-gay rights campaign literature during Boston's ‘Gay
Pride' events," issuing pink fliers stating, "Mitt and Kerry [running
mate Kerry Healey] wish you a great Pride weekend! All citizens deserve
equal rights, regardless of their sexual preference."
It appears that none of these three radio attack dogs didn't do their proper research on Mitt Romney. I don't know how they can call this man a conservative. Where ever the winds blows that is where Mitt Romney's position is for those few hours.
Let's take a look at Fred Thompson. In all fairness, Fred Thompson is more of a conservative than Romney. However, according to the Washington Times "Mr. Thompson's most serious and most repeated transgression against
conservative orthodoxy was his habitual embrace of the various
renditions of the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance "reform"
legislation, which he not infrequently characterized as
"McCain-Feingold-Thompson."
The Washington Times also points out: "During his eight years in the Senate, based upon his annual
composite conservative scores that encompassed all three areas, the
National Journal ranked Mr. Thompson along the conservative continuum
as follows: He was the 15th most conservative senator (out of 54
Republicans) in 1995, 30th in 1996, 17th (out of 55) in 1997, 16th in
1998, 20th (out of 55) in 1999 and 25th (out of 49) in 2001. In neither
2000 nor 2002 was he among the top 20. Interestingly, during Mr.
Thompson's last two years, Mr. Frist was the fifth most conservative
senator in 2001 and ninth most conservative in 2002."
I also wonder if Fred Thompson really wants this job. He has not campaigned hard at all and his "lazy" campaign
makes me wonder if this is the right guy to be president during a time of war.
Now, lets take a look at Mike Huckabee. Mike Huckabee has never wavered on abortion or defining marriage of that between a man and a woman. He didn't change his position based on polls even though Arkansas is considered a "purple" state.
Mike Huckbee walked into office with a $250 million deficit and left office with a $850 million surplus. How did he do this? Mike Huckabee cut taxes and fees almost 100 times, saving the taxpayers almost $380 million! That is $380 that went back into the local economy, not some worn down government program. Can you imagine how successful this policy will be on a national level?
By letting tax payers keep more of their own money and having Arkansas enter a surplus at the same time, Mike Huckabe proved that massive deficit is not due to Americans' being under-taxed, but to the government's over-spending. Sorry Hillary.
I feel that one of the most serious issues our nation faces today is illegal immigration. Illegal aliens are taking away the middle-class, they ravaging our education and health care systems. Many Central American gangs have terrorized innocent civilians with rape and murder. These gangs are nothing short of domestic terrorist. They have no loyalty to the United States. They are out for themselves and are destroying the American way of life.
Mike Huckabee is the fist candidate to sign a "no amnesty" pledge to the American voters. Mike says on his website that "In this age of terror, immigration is not only an economic issue, but
also a national security issue. Those caught trying to enter illegally
must be detained, processed, and deported. As Governor, I ordered my
state troopers to work with the Department of Homeland Security to
arrest illegals and enforce federal immigration law."
However, Mike knows that in our current system deportation is code for "revolving door" because right now if someone is deported, they are usually back in the country within days and most of the time they never leave at all. Mike went on to say: "Securing our borders must be our top priority and has reached the level of a national emergency.I
support the $3 billion the Senate has voted for border security. This
money will train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone planes,
build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and put up
105 radar and camera towers. This money will turn "catch and release"
into "catch and detain" of those entering illegally, and crack down on
those who overstay their visas.
Mike Huckabee also will never allow illegals to get driving licenses and vows his administration will crackdown on "sanctuary cities" such as New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New Haven, CT.
Mike Huckabee is also a great friend to the 2nd Amendment. Mike Huckabee's stance on the 2nd Amendment is clearly laid out on Mikehuckebee.com in writing and is the following:
- 1) The Second Amendment is primarily about tyranny and self-defense, not hunting. The Founding Fathers wanted us to be able to defend ourselves from our own government, if need be, and from all threats to our lives and property.
- 2) Second Amendment rights belong to individuals, not cities or states. I oppose gun control based on geography.
- 3) I consistently opposed banning assault weapons and opposed the Brady Bill.
- 4) As Governor, I protected gun manufacturers from frivolous law suits.
- 5) I was the first Governor in the country to have a concealed handgun license.
I am not finding a liberal or a moderate guy here. I am finding a "true conservative" who can put this country back on the right track with policies and results, not broken promises and slick speeches.
I am finding an honest man that knows people are losing their jobs in states like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida and Indiana. States that have been the bread and butter of this country. States where people used to grow up and work in the same town their whole lives and not worry about keeping their home or sending their kids to college. He remembers a time when the cost of living was reasonable and outsourcing wasn't destroying lives. He remembers, when it was about pulling together and helping one another. I support Mike Huckabee because he believes that, that America still exist and with Mike Huckabee as president he will help us return to those days of the America we once knew.
Sincerely
Matthew Ruby
